George E. Freeman

	George E. Freeman, age 87, of Pinckneyville, passed away Thursday morning, January 8, 2004 in the Pinckneyville Community Hospital.
	George was born November 2, 1916 in Pinckneyville, the son of Ernest Frank and Emma (Gaston) Freeman.  George was united in marriage to Cora Marie Knowles April 15, 1937 in Pinckneyville and she preceded him in death October 20, 1993.  He then married Martha Berger in Pinckneyville on September 17, 1994 and she survives.  George served in the U.S. Army during WW II and was a machinist for Caterpillar.  He was a member of Beaucoup Baptist Church in Pinckneyville where he was a Deacon Emeritus.  He was a member of the Carbondale Oddfellows Lodge #233, Carbondale Rebekah Lodge #220, Randolph Encampment #55 in Sparta.  George enjoyed woodworking, hunting and fishing.
	George is survived by his wife, Martha of Pinckneyville; sister, Kay Davis and husband Donald Bruns of Du Quoin; four grandchildren, Phillip and Steven Chrisman, Carla Husky and Tracy Burns; a son-in-law, Clifford Chrisman and nine great-grandchildren.  George was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Cora Marie; daughter, Alma Reta Chrisman; sister, Edna Freeman and a brother, Frank 'Junior' Freeman.
	Funeral services were held on Monday morning, January 12 at Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville at 10 a.m. with Reverend Tim Gossett officiating.  Interment was in the Hopewell Cemetery, Pinckneyville.
	Friends called at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville on Sunday evening from 6 until 9 p.m. and again on Monday morning from 8 a.m. until services.
	A Rebekah Oddfellows Memorial Service was held at 7 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
	Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Pinckneyville Health Care Nursing Home.
	Military graveside rites were conducted by the American Legion Post #2504 of Pinckneyville.
